The RoHS-regulation 2011/65EU regulates the use and the placing on the market of hazardous substances in electronic devices and electronic components. RoHS stands for „Restriction of Hazardous Substances“.

Therefore the RoHs obliges the compliance with limit values for certain hazardous substances like lead, cadmium or certain chromium and bromine compounds, which can be included in electronic devices. Additional to the already named compounds, as of 2019 some plasticiser, the so-called phthalates, will be included by RoHS. The permitted limit value for the in the RoHS-guideline regulated compounds amounts to 0,1 percent by weight (with regard to the homogenous material). Only for cadmium does the limit value amount to 0,01 percent by weight.
